VOICEbook Player

The VOICEbook Player is the software you need to make your VOICEbooks work. It is provided free of charge, and the latest versions are always available from the website. If we have put a new version of the software since you last logged in, then the system will tell you and invite you to download it.

Download instructions

Like most software applications that can be downloaded from the Web, both the VOICEbook Player and the VOICEbooks themselves can be saved to any directory of your choice and then run locally. (It is also possible to run the installation programs directly from the Web, but we would only recommend this if your connection is very fast and reliable).
On the web page, click on the name of the application you want to download.
A dialog window opens, recommending that you save the .EXE file in a directory on your computer.
(If you wish, change the directory suggested by Windows - but you must remember the name of the directory! We usually recommend saving these files either to the Desktop or to a default download directory. If you forget where you have put the file, do not worry. Just click on the Start button and then on Find (these words may vary according to the language of your operating system) and type in "vbplay" and click on the Find button. After a short while, the file will be found. Double-click on it to install the VOICEbook Player.)
Save the file you chose to download to your hard disk.

Installation instructions

When the download has completed, run the application. One of the easiest ways is to double-click on the icon in the directory you chose for the download.

NEW!! Instructions for Windows Vista and Windows 7: Make sure that you install the application as Administrator - the easiest way is probably to right-click on the icon in the directory you chose for the download and select Run As Administrator

(If you forget where you have put the file, do not worry. Just click on the Start button and then on Find (these words may vary according to the language of your operating system), then on Directory or File, and type in "vbplay" and click on the Find button. After a short while, the file will be found. Double-click on it to install the VOICEbook Player.)
This creates a new directory called C:\Program Files\Englishear Systems\VOICEbook and a program group called VOICEbook, where you can find the VOICEbook Player.
Click on Start - Programs - VOICEbook - VOICEbook Player to start up the VOICEbook Player.
The VOICEbook Player opens with a blank orange screen and the VOICEbook logo at the centre.
NEW!! Any VOICEbooks in the default download directory c:\program files\Englishear Systems\VOICEbook\DownLoad will automatically be installed
'

Installing the VOICEbooks

Click on File - Install in the VOICEbook Player.
A smaller window opens with a list of the VOICEbooks which you have already downloaded from the voicebook.com site. The default directory is c:\program files\Englishear Systems\VOICEbook\DownLoad. (If you forget where you have put the VOICEbook packets, do not worry. Just click on the Start button and then on Find (these words may vary according to the language of your operating system), then on Directory or File, and type in "*.vpk" and click on the Find button. After a short while, the VOICEbook will be found.)
Select the VOICEbook packet (*.vpk) you want to install (this will usually be an 8-letter code).

Opening the VOICEbooks

Click on File - Open in the VOICEbook Player. All the VOICEbooks which you have installed will be displayed in the right-hand 'Titles' window. Double-click on any title to open it, or click on the selected title and then on the “Open Selected VOICEbook” button in the lower right-hand corner.
